Process for appealing an Examination Score, Evaluation, or Course Grade

Step 1: Course Director

Submit an appeal to the Course Director(s) and Program Manager via email within five (5) business days of the posting of the examination score, evaluation, or course grade.

Step 2: UTMB PA Progress and Promotion Committee

If the Course Director(s) denies your appeal, you may appeal that decision to the UTMB PA Progress and Promotion Committee within five (5) business days of the date of the official notification to the Program Manager.

Step 3: PA Program Director

If the PA Progress and Promotion Committee denies your appeal, you may appeal that decision to the UTMB PA Program Director within five (5) business days of the date of the official notification.

Step 4: JSSOM Academic Review Committee

If the PA Program Director denies your appeal, you may appeal that decision to the John Sealy School of Medicine Academic Review Committee (ARC). Email your request to jssomapcarc@utmb.edu within five (5) business days of the date of the official notification. No further appeals are permitted.

Process for appealing a Dismissal Determination

Step 1: PA Program Director

To appeal a dismissal determination by the UTMB PA Progress and Promotion Committee, email your appeal to both the UTMB PA Program Director and the UTMB PA Program Manager within five (5) business days of the dismissal notification.

Step 2: JSSOM Academic Progress Committee

If the PA Program Director denies your appeal, you may appeal that decision to the JSSOM Academic Progress Committee (APC). Email your request to jssomapcarc@utmb.edu within five (5) business days of the date on the official notification letter from the PA Program Director.

Step 3: JSSOM Academic Review Committee

If the APC denies your appeal, you may appeal that decision to the JSSOM Academic Review Committee (ARC). Email your request to jssomapcarc@utmb.edu within five (5) business days of the date on the official notification letter from the APC.

Step 4: JSSOM Dean of Medicine

If the ARC denies your appeal, you may appeal that decision to the JSSOM Dean of Medicine. Email your request to jssomapcarc@utmb.edu within five (5) business days of the date on the official notification letter from the ARC.

Final Decision

If the JSSOM Dean of Medicine upholds the dismissal, no further appeals are permitted. If the dismissal is reversed at any review level, the case returns to the UTMB PA Program Director to determine the requirements for satisfactory remediation.
