  • In her role as Director of the Instruction Management Office (IMO), Dr. Lisa Elferink works with faculty, students and the IMO staff to promote excellence in medical education via curricular innovation, implementation and management. Dr. Elferink coordinates and manages the SOM year 1 and year 2 curriculum, ensures uniform application of UTMB policies and procedures for the formative and summative assessment of students, with the goal of creating a dynamic student-driven learning environment that fosters professionalism and allows the highest level of accomplishment for our students.

  • Annette trains and supports IMO staff in Blackboard course website development, oversees that websites are consistent in style and content, assist faculty with design and development of course materials, and supports use of many technologies used in our curriculum such as: Softchalk, Tegrity, Respondus, and Questionmark Perception. She coordinates media use in Problem Based Learning sessions, exams, and labs. She supports faculty and students with the use of virtual microscopy (WebSlide), maintains our video collection on the streaming media server, is the liaison between SOM and Academic Computing, is server administrator over many resources, and supports online testing. She is a member of the Educational Technology Support group to discuss issues, test packages, and assist in recommendations of future software needs related to our course management system and associated software. She is also the webmaster of the IMO website.

  • The Lab Coordinator's job is to coordinate the operation of the Integrated Medical Curriculum (IMC) lab. She prepares equipment, materials and rooms for Course activity, handles procurement and inventory for the lab, and coordinates the scheduling of labs, tests, demonstrations and study space involving the lab area. She works closely coordinating lab activities with the Course Directors, Course Coordinators, and Lab Facilitators. She maintains audio/visual equipment along with the annual cleaning of student and teaching microscopes. She maintains lab content areas within Blackboard and assists coordinators with many tasks such as online quizzes and loading of users. She also supports use of virtual microscopy in lab.
